Adorno's work is characterized, initiated and spurred on by the historic
developments of the 20th century. It is the attempt of writing after National
Socialism, as Adorno put it. His writings are pieces of painstaking social
criticism that ultimately claims society's complete pervasion by “instrumental
reason”. Only the work of art was able to let moments of “truth” shine
through.
