Assuming a steady growth of his limbs and senses which continued over the
last generations - Robert Schumann today would be a giant of 10 metres in
height. The work on Schumann and his environment could be described as a
railway system consisting of many tracks and points: net, map, atlas. It
is not the outlines that are being traced. The connection is achieved by
a huge variety of references and pieces of memory which result in a moving
field - fragmentary, more unfinished than detailed, connected to the epoch
by metaphors of words and sounds. All this is widened, and filled with elements
of temporary types of sounds, terms and discourse.
