Jury Statement: “Kippenberger hören” convinced
the jury as a congenial, fast-paced conjuration of the genius painter, sculptor,
poet
of nonsense texts, entertainer and punk musician who died in 1997.
The author and composer Oliver Augst and the free jazz musician Rüdiger
Carl, with the assistance of musician Sven-Ake Johansson, manage to make
Martin Kippenberger's mockery of the bourgeoisie felt in a highly pleasurable
collage of music and text.
In a dense musical structure with recurrent elements such as the whining
and bizarre “Aua aua aua - jaja" or "aua aua - neenee",
original recordings of Martin Kippenberger overlap and overturn. They are
texts of absurd boldness, nonsense poems and passages of the “ironic
solo entertainer with infiltration-intentions”.
Music, composition technique and texts emphasize how the artist wholeheartedly
gave his all in order to dismantle the atmosphere of sacredness in art and
to gain clear and unsentimental insight. “Is that funny? Yes… nope!” (Kippenberger)
